Questions to Ask a Wedding Photographer

When you’re ready to interview potential photographers, here are a few helpful questions:

• How many weddings have you photographed?

• Will you personally be photographing my wedding?

• What kind of camera and equipment do you use?

• Do you use an assistant?

• Do you offer black and white, color, or both?

• How would you describe your photography style?

• What’s your favorite wedding you’ve ever photographed?

• Have you photographed an LDS wedding before?

That last question is especially important.

Special Considerations for LDS Temple Weddings

LDS weddings, especially those performed in the temple, have unique needs that not every photographer will understand. Since the photographer won’t be permitted inside the temple for the sealing ceremony, you’ll want to explain that ahead of time.

That said, there are still so many beautiful moments to capture: photos outside the temple doors, group shots with family and the wedding party, and of course, stunning couple portraits with the temple spire in the background.

If you choose a photographer who isn’t familiar with LDS weddings, clear communication is key. Help them understand what is appropriate on temple grounds and what moments matter most to you.
