Look Beautiful and Honor the Day

Being a bridesmaid is such a meaningful honor—and one that often comes with a beautiful dress, a fun-filled day, and a lot of photos! So of course, you want to look your best. But when it comes to LDS weddings, we also want to honor the sacredness of the day. So how can bridesmaids find the right balance between radiant and reverent?

Here are a few helpful makeup tips for LDS bridesmaids that are temple-worthy, camera-ready, and bride-approved.

Keep It Simple and Sweet

This isn’t the day for dramatic contouring or bold blue eyeshadow. You’re not onstage—you’re standing beside your dear friend or sister on the most important day of her life. The goal is to enhance your natural beauty, not compete for attention.

Stick with soft, neutral tones that complement your skin. Think warm taupes, peachy pinks, and subtle shimmer if you’re indoors or attending a daytime ceremony.

Long-Lasting and Tear-Resistant

Let’s be honest—there’s probably going to be a few tears. Whether it’s when the bride walks into the sealing room, during the ring exchange, or while listening to her new husband bear testimony of eternal marriage… emotions run high (and so can mascara).

Be sure to use waterproof mascara, eyeliner, and long-wear foundation. A good setting spray or powder will help your makeup stay fresh all day—through hugs, happy tears, and lots of smiling for photos.

Prep Matters

Even the best makeup won't last without good prep. So, cleanse and moisturize your face beforehand and let everything absorb before applying any makeup. Primer can also be a bridesmaid’s best friend—it smooths your skin and helps foundation stay put longer.

Let the Bride Be the Star

While you want to look lovely, remember that the bride is the focal point. Avoid heavy lashes, super glittery shadows, or deep red lips unless that’s what the bride has requested. If you’re unsure about a shade or style, just ask!

Coordinate (But Don’t Match)

Talk with the bride about her vision. Some brides may want all bridesmaids to wear similar shades of lipstick or eyeshadow, while others are fine with everyone choosing their own. It’s always best to check so that your look complements the overall wedding aesthetic.

Bring a Touch-Up Kit

Tuck a few essentials into your bag:

  • Lip gloss or lipstick

  • Blotting papers

  • Mini powder compact

  • Safety pins or bobby pins

  • Breath mints or floss sticks

You’ll feel confident and prepared all day long!

Above all—smile. Be gracious. Help the bride feel calm, supported, and surrounded by love. That glow will outshine any makeup you wear.
