How to Plan and Personalize Your Wedding Invitations

LDS Bride Style!
In the whirlwind of wedding planning, it can be hard to know where to begin.
One of the first big tasks? Sending out your wedding invitations.
The sooner, the better — but before you can stamp and send, there’s a little legwork to do first.
From what to write… to when to mail them… to how to reflect your temple sealing with love and reverence — we’ve got you covered.
Step One: What to Include in Your LDS Wedding Invitation
Before you can order or create your wedding invitations, you’ll need to know three essential details:
-
Date
-
Time
-
Place
Start by choosing a wedding date and confirming it with your immediate family, your wedding party, and (most importantly) your venue. Whether you’re getting sealed in a temple, married at your local chapel, or planning a separate ring ceremony — lock in those details early.
Will your wedding be in the morning, afternoon, or evening? Once it’s confirmed, you can begin drafting the actual invitation wording.
Step Two: How to Word Your Wedding Invitation
Traditional wedding invitations often follow a formal tone, using script fonts and fully written-out dates (e.g., “eleven o’clock in the morning on the twenty-second of June, two thousand twenty-five”).
But here’s the good news — you don’t have to follow the same template your grandmother used (unless you want to!).
Many modern LDS couples are choosing fun fonts, clear and simple layouts, or even including photos. If you’re artistic or creative, you might host an invitation-making night with your friends. Or you might order something elegant and ready-to-go online.
Whatever you choose, your invitation should reflect the overall tone and spirit of your wedding day.

Step Three: Make Sure Your Invitation Matches Your Theme
Even if you don’t have every detail planned yet, it’s a good idea to pick your wedding colors before sending invitations.
Why?
Because your wedding invitation is the first glimpse your family and friends will get of your big day.
Choose an invitation design that matches your color palette and overall style. Love sunflowers and mason jars? Go rustic. Dreaming of elegant lilies and candlelight? Choose something classic and romantic.
Let your invitations serve as a little preview of the joy and spirit of your celebration.
Step Four: Know the Etiquette (It’s Easier Than You Think)
Here are a few quick tips to make things smooth and stress-free:
-
Send invitations early. Ideally, 6–8 weeks before your wedding day — or earlier for out-of-town guests.
-
Be clear who is invited. Address envelopes to “The Johnson Family” if kids are welcome, or just “Mr. and Mrs. Johnson” if it’s adults only.
-
Consider two invitation types. If you’re being sealed in the temple, you may want one invitation for those invited to the temple and reception, and a second version for those invited to the reception only.
-
Ask for RSVPs. Include a stamped return envelope or allow responses by email or wedding website.
Even if your reception is casual, knowing how many guests to expect helps with food, seating, and logistics.
One Last Reminder
Choosing your wedding invitations is a beautiful step toward making your sealing day feel real.
Yes, it might feel like a lot of decisions at once — but once the major details are set, your invitations will come together with ease.
And once those envelopes are sent?
You’ll have officially invited your loved ones to witness one of the most sacred and joyful moments of your life.
