Sweet Traditions with a Personal Touch
The guest book may be one of the smallest parts of your wedding reception—but it’s also one of the most meaningful.
Years from now, when the cake has been eaten and the dress is safely tucked away, your guest book will remind you who stood by your side on that special day. It helps you capture memories, collect addresses for thank-you notes, and preserve the names of loved ones who came to celebrate your eternal beginning.
And these days, your “guest book” can be almost anything you want it to be!
Where Should the Guest Book Go?
One of the most important things about your guest book isn’t what it looks like—it’s where you put it.
Set it up somewhere visible and easy to reach, but not in the way of reception traffic. A few tried-and-true spots:
-
Near the entrance to your reception hall
-
Beside the gift table
-
Next to a photo or memory display
Just make sure it doesn’t get missed in the bustle of the big day!
Assign a Guest Book Helper
If you want your guest book actually signed, we highly recommend assigning someone to be your “guest book helper.”
Whether it’s a bridesmaid, an aunt, or a sweet cousin you’d like to honor, this person can gently remind people to sign and (if needed) explain how it works—especially if you’ve chosen a non-traditional guest book.
And don’t forget to make them feel special! A corsage or boutonnière is a thoughtful way to say thank you.
Traditional Guest Book (with a Personal Twist)
Of course, the classic white guest book with lined pages will always be a favorite. But you can still personalize it! Choose a style that matches your wedding colors or theme. Add your names and sealing date to the cover. Or insert a photo from your engagement session on the inside page.
This traditional option is especially nice if you want plenty of space for names, addresses, and sweet messages.
Non-Traditional Guest Book Ideas for LDS Weddings
Want something a little more fun or unique? Here are creative guest book alternatives that still feel appropriate and meaningful for an LDS wedding:
-
Photo Guest Book – Use an instant camera to snap a picture of each guest. They tape their photo next to their message in a special scrapbook.
-
Signature Mat – Frame one of your engagement photos with a wide mat and invite guests to sign it. Later, you can hang it in your home as a daily reminder of the love that surrounded you.
-
Video Messages – Set up a quiet corner with a phone or camera on a tripod. Guests can record a short message, share their best marriage advice, or just offer love and congratulations.
-
Quilt Squares – Let guests sign pre-cut fabric squares with a fabric pen. After the wedding, sew them together as a keepsake quilt!
-
Pottery Signing – Choose a plain serving platter, bowl, or ceramic tile for guests to sign with special ceramic markers. Bake it afterward to make it permanent!
-
Postcards – Have guests choose a postcard and write a note, then either drop it in a vintage mailbox at the reception or actually mail them to you one-by-one after the wedding.
-
Drop Cards in a Box or Jar – Use a pretty box, vintage trunk, or large glass jar to collect hand-written cards or notes from guests. You can even design the cards to match your wedding theme.
-
Wishing Tree or Hanging Notes – Have guests write messages on cutout shapes (hearts, leaves, stars, etc.) and hang them on a decorative tree or ornament stand.
-
Alphabetized Rolodex – Provide note cards organized A–Z for guests to add their name and advice—fun, unique, and easy to keep forever.
Choose the Guest Book That’s Right for You
Whether it’s satin-bound or wildly creative, your guest book is a simple yet powerful way to remember who shared in your joy. Don’t be afraid to make it personal, meaningful, or even a little bit fun!
As with everything in your wedding planning, the best choice is the one that reflects you and your story—and leaves you smiling when you open it years down the road.
