LDS Temple Sealings — What Every Bride Should Know

Your wedding day is sacred—and in the temple, it becomes eternal.

For Latter-day Saint couples, a temple sealing isn’t just a ceremony—it’s a covenant. It’s a quiet, sacred moment filled with meaning that reaches far beyond the celebration. It’s the foundation of forever.

If you're preparing for your temple sealing—or helping someone who is—here’s what to expect and how to prepare for this once-in-an-eternity moment.

What Is a Temple Sealing?

A temple sealing is a sacred ordinance performed by proper priesthood authority in the house of the Lord. It binds a husband and wife together not just “until death do you part,” but for time and all eternity—along with any children born in the covenant or sealed to them later.

It’s the fulfillment of God’s promise that families can be eternal.

What to Expect

LDS temple sealings are very different from traditional weddings. There’s no aisle, bouquet, or grand entrance. Instead, you’ll kneel across a holy altar—surrounded by close family and friends—listening to inspired counsel about love, unity, and the sacred nature of marriage.

You’ll be dressed in white temple clothing, or a modest white wedding gown, symbolic of purity and equality before God. The setting is reverent, peaceful, and filled with the Spirit.

Most sealings are brief, lasting around 20 minutes, but the eternal impact will echo through generations.

Who Can Attend?

Because temple sealings are performed in dedicated temples, only worthy members of the Church with a current temple recommend may attend. For those who cannot be present, consider inviting them to participate in the surrounding celebrations—like a ring ceremony, luncheon, or open house.

It’s a tender opportunity to include and honor family and friends in meaningful ways.

Spiritual Preparation

Your sealing day will come quickly—and while there will be plenty to do, don’t forget to prepare spiritually. Attend the temple often, study scriptures and teachings on eternal marriage, and pray together as a couple.

Your relationship with each other and with the Lord is what will carry you—not just through your sealing, but through every step that follows.

A Day to Remember (and Reflect On Forever)

The temple is quiet. Sacred. Set apart from the noise of the world. And when you walk out those doors hand in hand—newly sealed for eternity—you will feel a peace and purpose that no earthly celebration can replicate.

And that’s why you’re here. You’re not just planning a wedding. You’re preparing for a temple sealing.

“Neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.”
1 Corinthians 11:11
