Dressing for the Temple—What to Wear for Your LDS Sealing

You’re getting sealed in the temple—what a joyful, sacred moment to prepare for!
Whether you’ve dreamed of this day since you were little or you’re still in awe that it’s really happening (you’re not alone!), there’s something incredibly special about stepping into the temple with the one you love, surrounded by peace and eternal promises.
As you prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime day, you might be wondering: What should I wear for the sealing itself?
Here’s what you need to know.
Bridal Dress Guidelines for the Sealing
The dress you wear during the sealing ceremony must meet the temple’s sacred standards. If you choose to wear your wedding dress during the sealing, it must:
-
Be white (not off-white, ivory, or cream)
-
Be long-sleeved (short sleeves are not permitted)
-
Have a higher neckline (no deep V’s or scooped necklines), that will cover your garments
-
Be floor-length
-
Be free of sheer panels or see-through fabric
-
Have a modest back and no train
Many brides choose to wear a temple-ready dress for the sealing and then change into a different (still modest) wedding dress for photos and the reception. It’s a personal choice—but temple modesty standards always come first.
Good news: If your dress needs adjustments, many temples provide temple packet dresses to wear over your gown or as a substitute. And your temple matron is happy to help if you have questions.
What About the Groom?
Your fiancé will also wear white temple clothing during the sealing ceremony. Most temples have clothing available to borrow, but some smaller temples may not—so it’s always a good idea to call ahead and confirm availability. He can also choose to bring or purchase his own: typically a white tie, white dress shirt, white pants, white socks, and white slippers.
And don’t worry—he can bring along his suit or tux to change into after the sealing for your grand exit together, arm in arm, as husband and wife.
What About Photos in My Wedding Dress?
Many brides choose to take formal wedding photos before their sealing day (called “bridals”) in their full wedding gown. That way, you can wear your dream dress for pictures- and, if you like, be dressed in temple clothes for the sacred sealing. (Bring your wedding dress with you for your grand exit)
A Sacred Moment of Eternal Joy
Your temple sealing is more than a ceremony—it’s the beginning of forever. You’ll want to feel beautiful, reverent, and ready.
So breathe. Smile. Soak it all in. This is your moment.
And no matter what dress you choose, what matters most is what you're there to do—be sealed to the one you love for time and all eternity.
If you still have questions, you’re not alone. The temple matron or your bishop can walk you through the specific dress requirements and help you feel fully prepared.
You’ve got this. And I’m so happy for you.
