What to Bring When Shopping for Your LDS Wedding Dress

Finding your temple-worthy wedding dress is one of the most joyful — and sometimes most emotional — parts of planning your eternal day. There’s something sacred about standing in front of the mirror and realizing, this is the dress I’ll wear when I’m sealed for time and all eternity.
Before you set out, take a breath, say a prayer, and bring these essentials along to make your wedding dress shopping day smooth, meaningful, and memorable.
Your Most Trusted People
Bring one or two people who truly understand your style and your standards — not a crowd. It’s perfectly okay (and often better!) to have just your mom, sister, or maid of honor by your side. You’ll want supportive voices who will help you feel peaceful and confident in your choice, not overwhelmed by opinions.
Temple and Modesty Standards
Print or save a quick reminder of the LDS standards for modest wedding dresses — high necklines, sleeves, and full coverage when possible. Even if your dress needs a few adjustments, having those guidelines handy helps you stay focused on what matters most: being temple-ready and radiant.
Undergarments Similar to What You’ll Wear
Bring the proper foundation pieces — temple garments (if applicable), supportive undergarments, and any shapewear you might use on your wedding day. The right layers make a big difference in how your gown fits and helps you see the real finished look.
Hair Inspiration Photos
Even if you’re not at the hairstyle stage yet, bring photos of your favorite hair looks. A half-up twist, bun, or loose curls can completely change the neckline and feel of your dress. Plus, it helps you imagine your full bridal look instead of focusing on one piece at a time.
A Bouquet or Something to Hold
It sounds simple, but holding a bouquet — even a small one — helps you see how you’ll move, pose, and feel in the gown. Bring a few faux flowers or ask the boutique for a sample bouquet. You’ll be surprised how much it completes the picture!
An Open Heart
Sometimes, the dress you imagined isn’t the one you end up loving. Be open to small surprises. Heavenly Father cares about every detail of your eternal day — and sometimes, your dream dress is the one that helps you feel His peace the moment you slip it on.
Gentle Reminder
When you find the dress, take a quiet moment to imagine yourself in the temple — your eternal companion beside you, your heart full of gratitude. That’s who you’re really dressing for.
