The Little Wedding Day Details You Don’t Want to Forget

Mint green vintage car decorated with white and blush flowers and a floral “Just Married” sign on the back, symbolizing a joyful LDS temple wedding send-off and the thoughtful small details that make the day memorable.

When you’re planning your big day, it’s easy to focus on the “big stuff.” You know—the temple, the photographer, the flowers, the food. But sometimes it’s the tiny details that sneak up on you and cause the most stress. The truth is, it’s often those little things that can make your day feel smooth and joyful—or trippy and chaotic (literally, if you don’t get that dress bustled in time!).

Here are five little wedding day details that are easy to forget, and a few ideas for how to make sure they’re covered.

1. The Bride’s Emergency Kit

Every bride needs a little “just in case” stash. Think of it like your secret weapon against Murphy’s Law. Button pops? Got a safety pin. Nerves kick in? Mints to the rescue. Tights rip? No worries, that’s what clear nail polish is for.

Here are a few things I recommend tucking in:

  • Sewing kit & safety pins

  • Band-aids & pain relievers

  • Stain remover wipes or pen

  • Snacks & bottled water (trust me, you’ll forget to eat)

  • Fashion tape, double-sided tape, scissors

  • Phone charger (because pictures, directions, and calls to Grandma all eat battery fast!)

Tip: Pack your emergency kit ahead of time, and give it to your maid of honor, your mom, or a trusted aunt who will actually have it on hand when you need it.

2. Who’s Grabbing the Bride’s Things?

After the reception ends, there’s always a pile of keepsakes and decorations that belong to you—the cake set, toasting glasses, framed photos, the sign-in book, extra favors, even leftover slices of cake.

Don’t let these get left behind in the venue kitchen or packed away by strangers. Decide beforehand who’s responsible for collecting them. Your mom, a sibling, or even a close family friend can make sure all those treasures make it home safe.

3. The Newlyweds’ To-Go Meal

This one is a biggie. By the end of the day, most couples realize they’ve barely eaten! You’ve been greeting, hugging, posing, and twirling all evening. By the time you drive away, you’ll be starving.

Ask someone to pack a meal (and dessert!) into your car so you can finally sit down together—just the two of you—and enjoy. Think of it as your first cozy little “date” as husband and wife.

4. Bustling the Dress Before Dancing

If your gown has a train, it will get stepped on unless it’s bustled. Many brides assume the maid of honor will do it, but if she’s never practiced, that can get stressful real quick.

Best plan? Have your mom, your maid of honor, or another trusted helper practice bustling it during your fitting or rehearsal. That way, when the music starts, you’re free to dance instead of fumbling with loops and buttons.

5. Prepping the Getaway Car

Your big send-off is the last impression of the night, so don’t let it fall flat. Whether you’re leaving to sparklers, bubbles, glow sticks, or a decorated vintage car, someone should be in charge of:

  • Handing out sparklers/bubbles/etc.

  • Lining up guests in the right spot

  • Making sure the car is pulled up and ready

  • Placing your bags, gifts, and packed dinner inside

That way, you can just run through a tunnel of cheers, hop in the car, and drive off into forever without a hitch.

The “little things” don’t have to feel overwhelming. Assign someone you love and trust to handle each of these details, and then let it go. Because at the end of the day, the most important detail is this: you’ll walk out of the temple hand-in-hand with your eternal companion. And that’s what really matters.
