Your honeymoon is the first big adventure of your new eternal journey together—what could be more exciting? Whether you’re planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip or a cozy weekend nearby, thoughtful planning makes everything smoother (and stress-free!). To help you transition from “sealed for time and all eternity” to “happily ever after,” we’ve created this honeymoon checklist to make sure nothing important slips through the cracks.

Because when you’re focused on each other, the last thing you want is to be worried about forgotten details.

1. Choose Your Honeymoon Destination

First things first—where will you go?

Some LDS couples head back to one of their mission areas, while others dream of a tropical beach, a big city, or a quiet cabin in the woods. The most important thing is finding a place that fits both your personalities and your budget. It doesn’t have to be far away or fancy—it just has to feel right for the two of you.

Remember: The best part of your honeymoon isn’t where you are—it’s who you’re with.

2. Book Your Travel

If your honeymoon involves flying, be sure to book flights in your maiden name (unless your trip is months after your sealing and you’ve already updated your ID). Flexibility can save you money, so compare options and travel dates if your schedule allows.

Traveling by train or car? Confirm your transportation details early and check for discounts or LDS travel groups that might offer helpful deals.

3. Reserve Lodging & Attractions

Make hotel reservations and print or save your confirmation info just in case. If you’re visiting popular attractions like a theme park, museum, or show, look into advance tickets online—often they’re cheaper and faster to access!

Bonus tip: Check for online promo codes or travel bundles—especially for destinations popular with families or honeymooners.

4. Plan for Money (and Avoid Surprises)

Whether you're honeymooning stateside or abroad, it's wise to plan ahead for how you'll handle money:

  • For U.S. travel: Bring a debit or credit card, and check your bank’s ATM network to avoid fees.

  • For international travel: Consider carrying 24 hours’ worth of local currency for tips, taxis, or food. You can usually get this from your bank before departure.

  • Call your card companies before you leave to notify them of your travel—so your account doesn’t get flagged or frozen!

  • Check for chip compatibility if traveling overseas. Many countries require cards with embedded security chips.

And while Travelers Checks are less common now, some couples still use them for extra peace of mind.

5. Prepare for International Travel

If you're heading outside the U.S., you'll need a valid passport—apply early if you don’t already have one. You can also check the State Department’s website for visa rules, safety info, and travel alerts for your destination.

Remember to refill any prescriptions before you go—especially if you're traveling abroad, where you may not be able to get replacements.

6. Road Trip Ready?

Driving to your honeymoon spot? Make sure your car is road-ready!

Have it inspected before your trip, and pack a small roadside emergency kit (jumper cables, flashlight, spare tire, etc.). Confirm that your license, registration, and insurance are current—and keep a car charger handy so you’re never caught with a dead phone.

Joining a roadside assistance service like AAA might be worth the peace of mind.

7. Pack Smart (With a List!)

Start a packing list ahead of time and keep it handy so you can jot things down as they come to mind.

In addition to your usual clothing, remember:

  • Temple recommends (if you plan to attend during your honeymoon)

  • Garments

  • Medications and birth control (if needed)

  • Swimsuits or hiking gear

  • Camera or journal

  • Chargers and toiletries

  • Scripture study materials

Pro Tip: Roll your clothes instead of folding to save space (and avoid wrinkles)—and pack an extra bag for souvenirs!

8. Check the Weather

It sounds simple, but you’d be surprised how often this is overlooked. A few days before departure, check the weather forecast for your honeymoon destination so you can pack accordingly.

Raincoat? Snow boots? Swimsuits? Knowing ahead helps you avoid overpacking—and under-preparing.

A Peaceful Start to Forever

Planning your honeymoon together is more than just logistics—it’s your first big chance to practice communication, budgeting, compromise, and teamwork. And it’s also a time to dream, laugh, and look forward to your new life as husband and wife.

So go through this list with your sweetheart, divide the tasks, and check things off together. Let the planning be part of the joy.

Because the best part of any honeymoon?
Is building memories with the one you love most.
