If you're reading this, it means you're about to become a husband—and I want you to know, you're stepping into something incredible. I'm here to walk you through what really matters as you prepare for your temple sealing and everything that comes with it. Here's your LDS groom's checklist—just the essentials, no fluff.
The Spiritual Items Comes First
You're leading out in this sacred journey, and that starts with being temple worthy. Stay true and faithful to your covenants. This is about more than just getting married—it's about building an eternal foundation.
-
Make sure both you and your bride have current temple recommends.
-
Meet with your bishop (and her bishop if you're in separate wards).
-
Secure your "Recommend for Living Ordinances" from both your Bishop and Stake President.
-
Choose your temple and schedule the day/time for your sealing.
-
Coordinate with your chosen temple sealer.
Legal and Logistical Must-Dos
-
Obtain your marriage license. (Some areas still require a blood test, so double check.)
-
If your bride hasn’t received her endowments yet, plan to attend with her a few days before the sealing.
-
Decide where you'll live together after you're sealed.
Ring, Tux, and Toast Time
-
Buy her wedding ring (if she hasn't picked it out with you).
-
Choose your best man and groomsmen. Make sure they know the dates and details.
-
Remind the guys to get measured and order their tuxedos early.
-
Buy small, meaningful gifts for your groomsmen.
Receptions, Travel, and Toasts
-
Plan transportation for the wedding day, reception(s), and honeymoon.
-
Coordinate with out-of-town guests and help them with accommodations.
-
Write your ring ceremony speech for the reception(s).
-
Prep a short, heartfelt toast for the rehearsal dinner—or ask someone else to do it.
Honeymoon Prep
-
Plan it together. She wants to know you're both excited about the same kind of getaway.
-
Book the flight, hotel/resort, and any needed transportation.
-
Print and save all confirmations.
-
Going international? Make sure both your passports are current.
Remember This: This checklist isn’t just about ticking boxes. It's about showing up, being prepared, and letting your future wife know she can count on you. That you’re all in. That she can count on the man she prayed for.
