The First Vision: A Moment That Changed the World

"This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him."

In the spring of 1820, a 14-year-old farm boy named Joseph Smith entered a quiet grove of trees with a question burning in his heart. Confused by the many churches around him and seeking forgiveness and truth, he turned to the scriptures and followed the counsel in James 1:5: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God."

What followed was a moment that would change the course of history.

As Joseph knelt in prayer, a dark force tried to stop him. But with deep faith, he called on God—and a pillar of light brighter than the sun descended. In that light stood God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. They appeared to Joseph, calling him by name. Heavenly Father pointed to Christ and said, “This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him.”

Joseph was told not to join any church, as the fullness of the gospel had not yet been restored. This sacred moment—now known as The First Vision—marked the beginning of the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the earth.

Through Joseph Smith, Christ’s Church was restored, including priesthood authority, temples, continuing revelation, and the knowledge that God still speaks today.

I invite you to pause, reflect, and experience this sacred moment for yourself.
