Blessings of Temples in Latter-day Saint Weddings

A Sacred Space for Eternal Promises
If you’ve ever walked past a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you may have noticed how peaceful it feels—even from the outside. There’s a reason for that. For members of the Church, temples are more than just beautiful buildings. They’re sacred places where heaven and earth feel a little closer. Where eternal promises are made. And where love—true, enduring love—takes on its fullest meaning.
For Latter-day Saint couples, getting married in the temple isn’t just a tradition. It’s a spiritual goal. We call it a sealing, and it’s a ceremony that binds a man and a woman together—not just “till death do you part,” but for eternity.
What Happens in a Temple Sealing?
Temple sealings are sacred and simple. There are no flowers, no aisle, no grand entrances. Just the couple, dressed in white, kneeling across an altar and promising to be faithful to each other and to God.
It’s reverent. It’s quiet. And it’s beautiful.
A sealing is performed by someone with priesthood authority. The couple covenants with God and with one another to build an eternal marriage, based on faith, kindness, and commitment.
We believe that these covenants, when kept, continue beyond death—uniting not just a husband and wife, but their children and generations forever.
Why the Temple?
We believe that temples are literally the house of the Lord. They’re different from the meetinghouses where weekly worship takes place. In temples, members make sacred covenants and receive ordinances that prepare them for eternal life.
Jesus Christ is at the center of everything we do in the temple. It’s His power that makes those eternal promises possible. And for Latter-day Saints, building a marriage on that foundation means building something that lasts—not just in this life, but in the life to come.
A Note About Who Can Attend
Temple sealings are sacred, and only members of the Church who hold a temple recommend (which means they live certain gospel standards) can attend. We know that can be tender—especially for parents, siblings, or friends who may not share the same faith.
That’s why many couples choose to hold a ring ceremony later in the day, as a way to include everyone they love. (You can learn more about that here.)
A Temple Wedding Isn’t Just a Ceremony—It’s a Commitment
In a world where marriage can sometimes feel temporary, temple weddings point toward something lasting and eternal.
They reflect a belief in God’s plan for families. A trust in Jesus Christ. And a desire to create a relationship built on more than emotion—but on covenant.
Love is eternal. And the temple is where forever begins.
